# Glycine Chelation Technology in Fertiliser

## The greatest advantage in foliar nutrition (liquid fertilisers) – 100% soluble Biomin Glycine Chelated Minerals

Various nutritional fertiliser formulations are available to growers to apply to
their plants and soil. Oxides, Sulphates, and EDTA chelates are the most commonly
recognised formulations; however, in the last decade, these have been superseded
by 3rd generation Glycine chelated minerals. These advanced formulations enhance
nutrient absorption, improve plant resilience, and optimise yields. They provide
superior results, making them the preferred choice for modern growers. Read on to
find out why.

## What is Glycine Chelation Technology?

It is a patented chelation process whereby every metal ion is bonded with two Glycine(
smallest amino acid) molecules, creating a fully chelated product. This innovative
technology holds a global patent branded under the name BIOMIN.

Roots, Shoots & Fruits have proudly been the sole distributors of these high-quality
fertiliser products in New Zealand for over two decades, supporting growers with
advanced nutritional solutions.

The plant recognises the Glycine chelated molecule as a proteinaceous molecule,
allowing it to travel efficiently in the phloem to critical growth points such as
flowers and berries, where it’s most needed, while also replenishing essential leaf
nutrient levels.

## Why are Glycine chelated fertiliser formulas superior to conventional products?

It is superior to conventional formulations because Glycine chelation technology
allows metals to be mobile elements, whereas elemental minerals, outside of this
technology, have low mobility within the plant. This improved mobility enhances
efficiency and reduces repeated application requirements, saving time.

The delivery method of these ‘bio-available’ minerals is not conventional, unlike
products such as Oxides, Sulphates and EDTA-based trace elements. The latter products
can marginally reduce deficiencies, but the speed by which the elements are released
from these products and transported into the growing points of plants is very slow
compared to the transportation of elements in the Glycine chelated form.

> Glycine chelation provides tremendous advantages due to its significantly increased
> absorption, efficient utilisation, and enhanced translocation of essential minerals
> within plants, leading to better growth, improved resilience, and higher overall
> productivity.

They are highly systemic, non-phytotoxic, 100% soluble and economical due to their
high availability. Glycine chelates were developed for the conventional market.
However, they are registered by organic certifiers, allowing organic growers to
utilise this technology also.

The greatest advantage of foliar fertiliser nutrition is the ease of application.
However, a foliar product must first be highly soluble to function and benefit your
plants. If your selected product is not 100% soluble, it is applied onto the plant
and not into the plant where it is required. Non-soluble products sit on the plant
surface and may contaminate tissue analysis readings rather than penetrating the
plant, providing nutrition where needed. Glycine technology has revolutionised the
application of elements such as zinc, boron, and calcium, which have low mobility
in elemental form.

This internationally patented technology enables elements to completely permeate
fruit and leaf tissue, including those with waxy cuticles such as citrus and avocado,
without relying on stomata opening. The intake of these elements can now be mobilised
via the phloem and xylem with systemic action to the growing points where they are
most needed. We can tell you how great this product is until the cows come home.
But we know statistics are where the evidence is. To see real-world results from
