We love to see the passion our home gardeners have for cultivating vibrant and thriving gardens, more so when we see them using RSF products and ditching the synthetic chemicals from their garden sheds!
As winter sets in, it is important to optimise the nutrient availability in the soil for your plants. We are going to talk about one nutrient in particular, phosphorus. Phosphorus is vital in providing energy to plants during our winter conditions.
Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient that plants rely on for growth and hardiness in colder weather. One of its primary functions is facilitating carbohydrate storage and energy transfer within plants. During the winter season, when plant growth slows down, phosphorus becomes even more critical as it sustains energy requirements for the next season’s growth and development.
During cold and wet periods, phosphorus faces significant obstacles as it becomes immobile in the soil. This makes it difficult for plants to access and utilise this essential nutrient, even if present in the soil. Mycorrhizal fungi developed alongside plants for a millennium and one of their main attributes is to provide available phosphorus to plants, sadly, this organism that creates a symbiotic connection to plants, like many, are now rare in soils. Luckily they can be replaced with products like Rootella.
Alternatively, K-Forte powder contains both phosphorus and potassium in a ratio that is similar to that in plants. Both of these macronutrients are important during early and later stages of crop development. Phosphorus is a constituent of plant cells, essential for cell division and development of the growing tip of the plant. For this reason it is vital for seedlings and young plants. Potassium will provide added protection from fungal diseases and rot.
K-Forte powder is an available form of these nutrients and can be used on covered crop/s, whether it be indoors or outdoors via soil (or as a foliar spray) and some crops via foliar spray also.
