Mycorrhizae Fungi in Establishment of Revegetation Plants and Trees

Mycorrhizae treated plants had a faster growth rate.

This trial showed that the Mycorrhizae treated plants had a faster growth rate than the control lots, despite the Mycorrhizae lots being, on average, smaller in height, width and stem width compared to the Control Plots at the beginning of the trial.

Twelve weeks after the trial was started both Lots were even in all data measurements. At the end of the trials the Koromiko were 3 cm higher, 7 cm wider and the stem width was 2 mm wider with most benefit being seen in the root system. On average the spread was 20 cm wider, and the depth was 9 cm deeper. This wide and deep root spread gives plants better access to nutrients and water and increases resilience to disease pressure as well as to extreme weather conditions. This is important for re-vegetation projects which are often on hilly, unstable ground with fickle soil conditions.
